WhatsApp - a new tool to repair roads in Bihar

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav on Thursday said he plans to use instant messaging app WhatsApp as a new tool to help in repairing roads in the state. Tejaswi tweeted a WhatsApp number 9470001346 for people to send the pics of damaged roads to the number to get them repaired. He said in a statement that they have decided to use WhatsApp to bring more quality and efficiency.

Xiaomi launches Mi Max, announces MIUI 8 OS

Xiaomi launched its new phablet, Mi Max and announced its latest MIUI 8 OS, in India. Mi Max features a 6.44 inch FHD display and is available in 3GB RAM - 32GB and 4GB RAM -128GB memory variants, powered by Snapdragon 650 and Snapdragon 652 respectively. The former is priced at Rs 14999 and the latter at Rs 19999. They have 16MP rear and 5MP front cameras and run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Visa, Walmart lock horns over use of PIN policy

Visa has filed a lawsuit against Walmart for their alleged protocol testing that removed the signature verifications on Visa debit card payments. Earlier Walmart had sued Visa for resisting the use of PINs by customers for purchases on debit cards. Visa said Walmart neither disclosed the PIN-only policy nor is providing a signature option. Wal-Mart said, 'We rightfully insist on the use of PINs.'

Man hacks Facebook account of wife, booked

Gurgaon: A man was booked on Wednesday for hacking his estranged wife's Facebook account and sending objectionable messages to her friends. Sachin Jindal from Faridabad was booked under Section 66A of the IT Act after his wife, a resident of Gurgaon, registered an FIR, the cops said. The couple has some marital dispute and the woman now lives in Sector 9A in Gurgaon. The woman said her Facebook account password was changed on April 14 and she complained to the cyber crime cell. "The woman suspected her husband has hacked her account and investigations confirmed it was hacked," said ACP Hawa Singh.

WhatsApp leads messaging apps globally

London: Instant messaging app WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app all over the world and is used in 109 countries, or 55.6 percent of the world, a new report said on Wednesday.

The countries include India, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and many other countries in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. 

WhatsApp currently has over one billion monthly active users. In India, over 70 million people use the messaging service.

Of the 187 countries that SimilarWeb -- a Britain-based information technology company -- examined, WhatsApp was the world leader claiming 109 countries.

"Facebook's Messenger app came in second overall, claiming 49 countries including Australia, Canada and the US. After Messenger, Viber was the only other messaging app to claim 10 or more countries," the report said.

Viber has strong popularity in Eastern Europe and is the top app in Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, among others, and as of April 2016, Viber was installed on 65 percent of all Android devices in Ukraine. 

Line, WeChat and Telegram are three other messaging apps claiming multiple countries with China, Iran and Japan representing countries using one of these apps. 

The report also said that BlackBerry's BBM is still used by the masses in at least one country in the world: Indonesia. 

"As of April 2016, the app was installed on 87.5 percent of all Android devices in the country, far surpassing any other country in terms of BBM use," the report noted.

In the US, only 0.42 percent of Androids had the BBM app, with Australia and Britain showing slightly higher use.

WhatsApp update now supports quote messages, GIFs and replies

New Delhi: In an effort to make the app more simple and user-friendly, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows its user to quote any older messages and reply to it.

This latest update is quite similar to Twitter's 'Quote' feature and Facebook's 'Share Post' feature and available in Android beta build (version 2.16.118).

Simply press and hold on the message you want to reply. Within seconds a series of options like star, reply, copy, delete, forward will appear above the chat bubble.

Tap reply icon and your message will appears a quote. When you send your reply it will include a colorful thumbnail of your chosen messages.

Soon WhatsApp users will also get the ability to send GIFs in the messages.

WhatsApp users now make over 100 million calls everyday!

New Delhi: The most popular instant messaging service 'WhatsApp' launched its voice calling feature to users worldwide in April last year.

Though the feature was first introduced to WhatsApp users on Android but was later followed by iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone.

The Facebook-owned WhatsApp on Thursday announced that users are making over 100 million calls daily using the app. It said, the numbers translate to over 1,100 calls a second.

'For more than a year, people have used WhatsApp Calling to talk with friends and family around the world. It’s a great way to stay in touch, especially when connecting with people in other countries, or when messages alone won’t do,' WhatsApp said in a blogpost.

'Today, more than 100 million voice calls are made every day on WhatsApp - that's over 1,100 calls a second,' it added.

WhatsApp has been adding many new features to make its platform both convenient and fun.​

இதையடுத்து அங்கு வந்த அவரது மகன் அவரை அருகில் உள்ள மருத்துவமனையில் சேர்த்துள்ளார். ஆனால் அவர் ஏற்கனவே இறந்துவிட்டதாக மருத்துவர்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

சுவாதி கொலை சம்பவம் காரணமாக ரயில் நிலையம் பரபரப்பாக இருந்ததால் நெஞ்சுவலியால் அவதிப்பட்ட ஆதிகேசவனை யாரும்  கண்டுகொள்ளப்படவில்லை.

Swim star Michael Phelps qualifies for fifth Olympics

Michael Phelps qualified for a milestone fifth Olympics, booking his ticket to the Rio Games with a 200m butterfly victory at the US swimming trials.

Phelps, whose record 22 Olympic medals include an astonishing 18 gold, clocked 1min 54.84sec to triumph over Tom Shields and become the first man to make a fifth US Olympic swimming team.

Shields finished in 1:55.81, pushing Phelps all the way.

"Getting on this team was what I wanted to do," said Phelps, who celebrates his 31st birthday on Thursday.

The 200m butterfly was the event in which a teenaged Phelps set his first world record, and his world mark of 1:51.51 -- set at the tail end of the bodysuit era in 2009 -- still stands.

Regaining the Olympic title he surrendered to Chad le Clos in London in an event he long considered his baby figures to be a strong motivator for Phelps in Rio, although he acknowledged the competition would be fierce.

Porsche launches latest 911 models in India

German car maker, Posrche has launched its new 911 models in India with prices ranging between Rs 1.42 cr and Rs 2.66 cr. Company sources said the latest, 8th generation avatars of the 911 model, are 12% more fuel efficient. Porsche plans to open two new showrooms at Chennai, and Hyderabad.

9th standard student beaten to death in Delhi

In a brutal incident, a 9th standard student was allegedly beaten to death in Mayur Vihar, Delhi on Wednesday. According to media, a shop keeper is the culprit. The victim's relatives alleged that the Delhi Police has not taken any action against the accused. Identities of the victim and attacker have not been revealed yet. Information on the reason for the assault are awaited.

Over copyright issues, Radhika Apte and Manoj Bajpayee-starrer short film 'Kriti', has been removed from YouTube. Nepali filmmaker Aneel Neupane had alleged that 'Kriti' is a copy of his film 'BOB'. Shirish Kunder, the director of 'Kriti', has written to Neupane demanding an apology. Neupane said 'BOB' was uploaded on Vimeo in Oct 2015 for private sharing and was released on YouTube on May 12.

புதுச்சேரியில் கள், சாராயக் கடைகள் ஏலம் தொடக்கம்

புதுச்சேரி, காரைக்காலில் கள், மற்றும் சாராயக் கடைகளுக்கான ஆன்லைன் ஏலம் புதன்கிழமை தொடங்கியது.

புதுச்சேரி பிராந்தியத்தில் மொத்தம் 98 சாராயக் கடைகள் உள்ளன. இதில் 16 கடைகளின் உரிமங்கள் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டு விட்டன. மீதமுள்ள 80 கடைகளுக்கு ஏலம் நடைபெறுகிறது.

காரைக்கால் பிராந்தியத்தில் 27 சாராயக் கடைகள் உள்ளன. இதில் 19 கடைகளின் உரிமங்கள் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. 8 கடைகளுக்கு ஏலம் நடைபெறுகிறது.

கள்ளுக் கடைகள்

புதுச்சேரியில் மொத்தம் 69 கள்ளுக்கடைகள் உள்ளன. 22 கடைகளின் உரிமங்கள் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. மீதமுள்ள 47 கடைகள் ஏலம் நடைபெறுகிறது.

காரைக்கால் பிராந்தியத்தில் மொத்தம் 28 கள்ளுக்கடைகள் உள்ளன. 12 கடைகளின் உரிமங்கள் ஏற்கெனவே புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டன. மீதமுள்ள 16 கடைகளின் ஏலம் நடைபெறுகிறது. புதன், வியாழன் ஆகிய 2 நாள்கள் 2016-17-ம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கான ஏலம் நடைபெறுகிறது.

கடைகள் குத்தகை காலம் 3 ஆண்டுகளாகும். அதில் அதிகப்பட்சம் ஏலம் கேட்போருக்கு கள், சாராயக் கடைகள் ஒதுக்கப்படும்.

இந்த ஏலம் மூலம் அரசுக்கு ரூ.100 கோடி வரை வருவாய் கிடைக்கும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுவதாக கலால் துறை துணை ஆணையர் ஆபெல் ரொசாரிய தெரிவித்தார்.

The Cabinet on Wednesday passed the new Model Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of services) Act 2015 in this regard. Any firm with over 10 employees comes under this act. This comes soon after the hike in salaries of the central govt employees.

Girl gang raped inside school in Delhi

A 17-year girl was gang raped by her friend and the security guard of a private school in Delhi on Wednesday. Both the accused left the place after committing the crime. Later, the girl with her mother lodged a complaint against the accused. Police filed an FIR and have arrested the two and charged them under the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

துருக்கி தலைநகர் இஸ்தான்புல் தலைமை சர்வதேச விமானநிலையத்தில்  இன்று 3 பயங்கரவாதிகள் தற்கொலை வெடிகுண்டு தாக்குதலை நடத்தினர். இந்த பயங்கரவாத தாக்குதலில் 36 பேர் உயிரிழந்தனர். 150-க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் காயம் அடைந்து உள்ளனர்.

சேலத்தை அடுத்த இளம்பிள்ளை பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த விசைத்தறி உரிமையாளர் அண்ணாதுரையின் மகள் வினுப்ரியா (21). முகநூலில் அவரது படம் ஆபாசமாக வெளியிடப்பட்டது தொடர்பாக வினுப்ரியாவும், அவரது பெற்றோரும் மாவட்ட காவல் துறையிடம் புகார் செய்தனர். அதன் பேரில், சைபர் கிரைம் பிரிவு போலீஸார் விசாரித்து வந்தனர். ஆனால், போலீஸார், வினுப்ரியா மீதே சந்தேகம் தெரிவித்தும், அவரை மன உளைச்சலுக்கு ஆளாக்கும் வகையில் விசாரணையை நடத்தியதாகத் தெரிகிறது. போலீஸார், வினுப்ரியாவின் தந்தை அண்ணாதுரையிடம் புதிய செல்லிடப்பேசியை வாங்கித் தரும்படி நிர்பந்தம் செய்ததையடுத்து, அண்ணாதுரை ரூ. 2 ஆயிரம் மதிப்பிலான செல்லிடப்பேசி ஒன்றை போலீஸாருக்கு வாங்கிக் கொடுத்தாராம். இந்த நிலையில், கடந்த ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை வினுப்ரியாவின் முகநூலில் மீண்டும் ஓர் ஆபாச படம் வெளியிடப்பட்டதால், மிகுந்த மனவேதனை அடைந்த அவர் திங்கள்கிழமை தூக்கிட்டுத் தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார்.

இதுதொடர்பாக வினுப்ரியாவின் தந்தை கூறுகையில், புகார் கொடுத்த பின்னர் வழக்குப் பதிவு செய்யாமலும், விசாரணையை முறையாக மேற்கொள்ளாமலும், முகநூல் பக்கத்தை முடக்காமலும் காலம் தாழ்த்தியதால்தான் வினுப்ரியா தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார். தற்கொலைக்கு போலீஸார்தான் காரணம் என்று குற்றம்சாட்டினார்.

காவல் நிலையத்தில் கொடுத்த புகார் மீது விசாரணை மேற்கொள்ளாமல் தங்களை போலீஸார் அலைக்கழித்தனர். முகநூல் பக்கத்தை முடக்குவதற்கு 20 நாள்கள் ஆகும் என்று தெரிவித்தனர். ஆனால், உறவினர் மூலம் முகநூல் பக்கத்தை சில மணி நேரத்தில் முடக்கினோம். இதுபோன்ற நிலை வேறு யாருக்கும் நேர்ந்துவிடக் கூடாது. இந்த வழக்கில் போலீஸார் மீது உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டவர்களிடம் மாவட்ட காவல் கண்காணிப்பாளர் அமித்குமார் சிங் நேரில் சென்று சமரசப் பேச்சுவார்த்தையில் ஈடுபட்டார். உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் என்று உறுதி அளித்தார். காவலர்களின் பொறுப்பற்ற செயலுக்கு பெற்றோர் மற்றும் உறவினர்களிடம் மன்னிப்புக் கோரினார்.

இந்நிலையில், சைபர் க்ரைம் பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்த தலைமைக் காவலர் சுரேஷ்குமாரா இடைநீக்கம் செய்து சேலம் மாவட்ட காவல்துறை ஆணையர் சுனித்சரண் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளார்.

இந்த வழக்கில் இன்று காலை சேலம் கல்பாரப்பட்டியைச் சேர்ந்த சுரேஷ் என்பவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு அவரிடம் இருந்த செல்போன் மற்றும் சிம்கார்டை பறிமுதல் செய்து போலீஸார் தொடர்ந்து விசாரணை செய்து வருகின்றனர்

Tamil Nadu Suicide: Man Arrested For Morphing Photos On Facebook

CHENNAI:  A man has been arrested in Tamil Nadu's Salem district for allegedly uploading morphed pictures of 21-year-old woman on Facebook who hanged herself on June 27.

Police said accused Suresh works for a power loom where he met Vinupriya who used to come there to collect material for embroidery work, police said.

"Suresh uploaded her morphed obscene pictures using his mobile phone in vengeance as she did not reciprocate his advances," said Amit Kumar, as senior police official. The arrest comes a day after Facebook shared the photo uploader's IP address with the police.

In the suicide note Vinupriya said her parents did not trust her any more.

The victim, Vinupriya, was found dead on June 27 in Salem, where she lived with her parents. A suicide note suggested that her parents did not believe that she had not sent nude pictures of herself to whoever posted them online.

Vinupriya had graduated a year ago from college with a degree in Chemistry.

Police have filed a case of abetting suicide and have invoked several sections under the IT Act as well.

In her suicide note, Vinupriya had said, "I promise I did not send my picture to anyone.  What's the use of living when my parents don't trust me.  Believe me. "

The parents said police did not act on the complaint about the photos.

Her family have accused the police of not acting on a complaint filed by them on the 23rd, which asked for the nude photos to be removed and the culprit to be identified and punished.

Her father Anna Durai said, "We were made to go to one office after another. Action should be taken against the police".

"We've filed a case of abetting suicide and have blocked the Facebook page which carried her pictures," said Mr Kumar.

இந்நிலையில் பழம்பெரும் நடிகர் ஒய்.ஜி.மகேந்திரா தனது சமூக வலைத்தளத்தில் சுவாதி கொலை தொடர்பாக சர்ச்சைக்குரிய ஒரு கருத்தை தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.  அவர் தனது சமூக வலைத்தளத்தில் கூறியுள்ளதாவது: கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட சுவாதி ஒரு பிராமணப் பெண் என்பதால் இந்த கொலையை திராவிட கட்சிகள், கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சிகள், ஜாதிக்கட்சிகள் உள்பட யாரும் இதைக் கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை. ஆனால் இதே சுவாதி ஒரு தலித் பெண்ணாக இருந்திருந்தால் எல்லோரும் வரிந்து கட்டிக் கொண்டு போராட்டம் செய்திருப்பார்கள். மேலும் கொலையாளி பிலால் என்ற முஸ்லீம் என்றும் கூறப்படுகிறது' என்று சர்ச்சைக்குரிய கருத்தை பதிவு செய்துள்ளார்.

கொலை செய்தவர் யார் என்பதை இன்னும் போலீசார் கண்டுபிடிக்காத நிலையில் கொலையாளி முஸ்லீம் என்று கூறியதற்கும், திராவிட கட்சிகளை தாக்கி கருத்து தெரிவித்ததற்கும் ஒய்.ஜி.மகேந்திரன் மீது பலர் கடும் கண்டனம் தெரிவித்து வருகின்றனர்.

பின்னர் இதுகுறித்து தனியார் தொலைக்காட்சி ஒன்றுக்கு விளக்கம் அளித்துள்ள ஒய்.ஜி.மகேந்திரா, 'இந்த விவகாரத்தில் நான் விளக்கம் அளிக்க கடமைப்பட்டுள்ளேன். அந்த முகநூல் பதிவு நான் எழுதியது அல்ல. யாரோ எழுதியது. நான் பகிர்ந்திருந்தேன். ஆனால், அதில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள கருத்துக்கள் எனக்கு உடன்பாடு உண்டு. இதை சொல்ல எனக்கு உரிமையும் உண்டு என்று கூறியுள்ளார்

High alert across Srinagar; Operations underway

Sensex rose over 100 points while the 50-share Nifty moved above its crucial psychological level of 8,150 after the global markets rebounded after Brexit concerns lowered. Airbag issue; Toyota to recall 14.3 lakh hybrids

Japanese automotive manufacturer, Toyota Motor Corp announced its plans to recall as many as 1.43 million hybrid Prius and Lexus CT200h cars owing to an issue with the airbag. The firm mentioned that there could be a possible crack in a weld suggesting that it may lead to the separation of inflator chambers. Toyota said that the airbag may partially inflate and increase the risk to injury.

US tech major IBM has discovered a methodology to convert toxic old smartphones into medical-grade plastic. The recycling process, uses chemicals to turn polycarbonates used in smartphones & CDs into a nontoxic plastic, that is safe and strong for medical use. Scientists are combining experts in informatics and polymers for the study, which a researcher says is an environmental win on many fronts.
